A taste of summer as temperatures soar

- Suddenly, it's summer
This Afternoon: Turning Mostly Sunny, Very Warm
Highs: 80-85 | Wind: w 10-15/G 25
Tonight: Mostly Clear & Mild
Lows: 55-62 | Wind: SW 5-10
Monday: Sunny, Hot, & Breezy
Highs: 83-88 | Wind: SW 15-20
Other than a few drops on the windshield, there was little evidence this morning of the scattered sprinkles that fell overnight. But the real revelations this morning were the very mild temperatures. Readings in the low 60s resulted from the southerly flow that sent the thermometer to 75 yesterday at Reagan National and will likely reach the low to mid 80s today. And while yesterday was the 2nd mildest day this month, today will almost certainly be the warmest; in fact, we have not had an 80 degree day since March 23rd. Should we reach 85 tomorrow - and we have a very good chance of doing so - it will be the hottest day since way back on September 14th when the mercury hit 87.
A cold front late Monday will usher in somewhat cooler air for Tuesday and Wednesday - and there is a slight chance of showers late Tuesday night - but temperatures should be on the rebound in the latter part of the week. And although we'll likely return to the lower 70s, which is well above seaonal norms, the summery sizzle of today and tomorrow won't be returning! Enjoy your Sunday.
