Clouds will increase today as a cold front approaches from the west. Showers followed by areas of rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead and along the front later this afternoon and into the evening hours. With the atmosphere becoming more unstable, thunderstorms will be possible with gusty winds and heavy downpours. While the threat for severe weather appears low, some thunderstorms may become strong.
Thunderstorms will diminish overnight with only a chance for a lingering shower or two from 8 PM until midnight. A more potent area of low pressure will arrive early Sunday morning bringing areas of very heavy rain to the region. A t this point, the highest amounts will fall just east of the D.C. metropolitan area. Upwards of one to two inches are probable with higher amounts possible across the Delmarva.
