A few showers and thunderstorms may pop during the evening hours but chances are limited to about 20-percent and will greatly diminish after sunset.
As the holiday weekend draws to a close, warm and humid conditions will continue into the overnight hours. Temperatures will slowly fall into the middle 60s in the mountains and lower 70s in the District. High pressure will pump hot and humid air across the mid-Atlantic on Tuesday followed by an approaching cold front late in the day and into Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop during the afternoon hours and may linger into Wednesday morning. Some thunderstorms will have the potential to become severe with gusty winds and heavy downpours. Cooler and more comfortable conditions return by Thursday.
