Change was in the air this morning. Yes, it was still comfortable, but the refreshing cool of this past week was gone. With high pressure in place off the Carolina coast, warmer and more humid air is returning to the Washington area. The pleasant dew points in the 40s and 50s and daytime highs in the 70s that characterized this past blissful week will gradually yield to daytime highs around 90 and stickier dew points in the 60s as the weekend progresses. Still, we can't really complain: the month has been the first all year that is running cooler than normal - by almost 4 degrees. Last year on this date, the reading was 102 degrees, the hottest ever for a June 9!
The hot streak will continue through Monday before a front approaches on Tuesday, bringing with it tropical moisture and unstable conditions for the latter part of the week. Look for daytime highs in the low to mid 80s, which are still above normal, and chances of showers and thunderstorms each and every day through week's end. Stay cool today and enjoy the last of the atypically dry air days - the humidity is back tomorrow!
