A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect from11 am until 9 pm tomorrow. Temperatures will climb through the upper 90s to near 100 degrees. But because of the moisture content of the air, it will feel closer to 105 degrees at times during the afternoon.
The heat is on! A huge area of high pressure building eastward from the Central Plains will strengthen as it’s center of circulation sets up to our south. The result will be several days of oppressive heat and humidity and the Friday Heat Advisory could well be extended to include Saturday and Sunday. In this unseasonably hot and humid air mass, thunderstorms are a possibility each day of the mini heat wave. There will be sufficient instability for a pop up thunderstorms but perhaps the better chance of thunderstorm activity may arrive from the far west. Well west of the Appalachians, conditions favor the daily development of large clusters of thunderstorms and with the air remaining very warm and muggy through the night…these storms could track across our area after sunset. This is something we will monitor closely. Between the heat, humidity and thunderstorms possibilities you will want to stay in close contact with our forecast as you plan any travel or outdoor activity.
