An area of low pressure passing through the mid-Atlantic states has been responsible for this cloudy and unseasonably cool day. Scattered showers lessened in coverage during the day but a few more showers are possible through this evening and tonight. By tomorrow morning, the low pressure trough will be off-shore and our local weather will come under the direct effect of high pressure building off the coast of the southeastern U.S. This pattern is classic summer for our region.
We will see a steady increase in temperatures for the next few days along with a slight but noticeable increase in moisture levels. High temperatures will soar into the upper 80s tomorrow, middle 90s on Wednesday, upper 90s on Thursday and lower 90s on Friday. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny. There will be a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, a slight chance again on Thursday and a little better chance on Friday with the approach of the next cold front.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we are forecasting partly cloudy skies with highs in the middle to upper 80s. Saturday appears to remain dry right now with afternoon thunderstorms possible on Sunday afternoon. The hot weather coming this week, comes on the heels of unseasonably cool weather, so you will need to plan your outdoor activities accordingly.
