July showed no mercy yesterday as we endured yet another very hot and humid day. The mercury hit 95 at Reagan National in a month that has seen 15 days of 95 or higher, the most since 1930. Saturday started out very warm and muggy with dew points in the low 70s. Highs this afternoon could be a degree or two lower than Friday's, but temperatures in the low 90s and considerable humidity will still spell a rather uncomfortable day. A few thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, are possible. Tomorrow should be the better day by far this weekend with mostly sunny skies, highs in the upper 80s and slightly lower humidity.
As the weekend's high pressure moves offshore, a series of lows will move through the area int the coming week. This typical late July pattern should brings relatively cooler days with highs in the mid to upper 80s and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms each day through Friday.
August begins on Wednesday and while it too is notoriously hot, statistically speaking, it is "cooler" than July. Let's hope that this last month of meteorological summer follows that tradition! Enjoy your weekend!
