While yesterday's 88 degree high made it one of the "coolest" days this torrid month of July, its high humidity robbed it of any comfort. Scattered thunderstorms developed and brought a little rain to National Airport (0.08") and Dulles Airport (0.10"), but quite a lot to Charlottesville (1.59") and central Virginia where flash flooding occurred.. With a warm front now positioned over Pennsylvania, a southwesterly flow of hot, humid air will likely send us back to the 90s this afternoon with thunderstorms and heavy downpours a possibility yet again. The high humidity levels could push heat indices to near 100.
The next few days will be increasingly hot with highs on Tuesday and Wednesday headed for the upper 90s. With a front scheduled to drop through the Mid-Atlantic at midweek, some strong storms could occur as slightly cooler, drier air attempts to return for the latter part of the week. Look for highs on Friday and Saturday to drop back to where they should be: in the upper 80s! Try to stay cool and enjoy your Sunday.
