D.C. weather forecast: unsettled with periodic rainfall over the next several days

September 26, 2012 - 02:00 PM
Text size Decrease Increase

This Afternoon: Spotty Rain & T-showers

Highs: 81-86 | Wind: S 8-15 mph

Tonight: Scattered T-Showers

Lows: 60-66 | Wind: W 2-6

Thursday: Limited Sun, Isolated Sun

Highs: Mid 70s | Wind: N 5-10

The main update to the forecast relates to storm chances and severity today. The vast sunshine this morning is destabilizing our atmosphere (more than previously anticipated), and this increases our chance of scattered storms later today, some of which could become severe with localized strong winds posing the biggest threat. Otherwise, today will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the low to mid 80s. An unsettled pattern has taken shape and will dominate our weather for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Spotty showers and storms can be expected today and tomorrow, but at this point, I think the most widespread rain will hold off until Friday and Saturday.
