Although quite windy, it is a much more comfortable day than yesterday when the coldest air of the season left frosted and frozen plants in its wake. Instead of record lows, like the 30 degree reading at Dulles, Sunday morning's temperatures were 10 to 20 degrees higher than Saturday's. With a cold front still well to our west and winds gusting to 25 mph, look for today to be a partly cloudy and much milder day with highs near 70. The increasing cloudiness however, could keep temperatures a bit lower. Clouds will dominate the overnight hours and again on Monday as the front arrives. Showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible as the mercury stays near the 70 degree mark. High pressure, sunshine and less humid air will return on Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 60s.
Yesterday's 60 degree high temperature reading at Reagan marked the sixth day of the last seven to register below average numbers. It also reversed the month-long above average temperature trend which, thanks to this cool week, is now about one degree below the norm. In a year of much warmer than normal months, October might just break the pattern. Enjoy your Sunday.
