Clouds lingered through the morning hours today which actually saved us from having a slick commute. Clouds provide a "thermal blanket" if you will in the overnight hours and prevent some of the heat collected on the surface during the day from escaping into space after sundown. Thus, temperatures stayed above freezing in the metro and roads were clear. High pressure over the Tennessee Valley is now controlling our weather and giving us a sunny afternoon and cool conditions. Winds are picking up a little this afternoon, enough that we have to talk about a wind chill factor. The temperatures your body feels will be roughly 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the thermometer reading. The high will dominate our weather the rest of the week and keep us coolish for two more days. As the center of the high shifts eastward on Friday, it will bring in southerly winds and start a nice warm up for the end of the weekend and early next week.
