D.C. Weather Forecast: Big Weather Changes On The Way

A massive weather system in the central U.S. will bring big changes to our region.  Rain, wind, and MUCH colder air for the holiday weekend. 

Tonight: Rain likely & becoming breezy

Lows: 40s | Wind: South to West 15-15-25 mph

Friday: Partly to mostly cloudy and blustery. Isolated sprinkles or snowflakes possible.

Highs: Mid 40s; Wind Chill: 30s | Wind: West 10-20 mph gusting to 30 mph during the afternoon

Saturday: Partly cloudy, windy and cold. HIGH WIND WATCH in effect

Highs: Low 40s; Wind Chill: 20s & 30s | Wind: Partly cloudy, windy and cold. HIGH WIND WATCH in effect

A strong cold front is spreading rain across the mountains and into the metro area. The rain will get steadier and heavier tonight. It will become quite breezy later tonight as well. While we will see a cold, nasty rain, BLIZZARD WARNINGS are in effect across Garrett County MD and adjacent parts of PA and WV. The cold front will be east of here tomorrow morning. We may see some brief sunshine, but tomorrow the will wind up being rather cloudy and very breezy. And we may see a a few sprinkles or snowflakes. High winds are expected on on Saturday…hence the High Wind Watch.

It will be partly cloudy and cold and winds could gust to 5- mph at times. A quitter Sunday awaits with partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 40s. It still appears possible that a weak upper level disturbance could cross the area on Christmas Eve and produce a few showers or even snowflakes mixed in. Christmas Day will be partly cloudy and seasonable with highs in the 40s.
