D.C. weather forecast: Dry Christmas day, rain and sleet Wednesday

Conditions will improve during the overnight hours as an area of low pressure pulls away from the mid-Atlantic.

Overnight: Partly Cloudy, Patchy Fog

Lows: 30°-36° | Wind: Southeast 2-8 mph

Christmas Day: Partly Sunny

Highs: 44°-49° | Wind: Northwest 5-10 mph

Wednesday: Periods of Rain, Sleet

Highs: near 45° | Wind: Northeast 10-15 mph

Areas of fog may develop as temperatures hold in the 30s.

Christmas Day will be drier with some sun and seasonable temperatures in the upper 40s. On Wednesday, a new storm will arrive from the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. This could bring a wintry mix through the early morning, mainly north and west of the District and in the mountains. Following this second storm, blustery northwesterly winds will bring more seasonable temperatures in the 40s Thursday and Friday.
