D.C. Weather Forecast: Light Mix New Year's Day, otherwise quiet start to 2013
This Afternoon: Increasing Clouds
Highs: Low to mid 40s | Wind: SW 5
Overnight: Cloudy Skies
Lows: low to mid 30s | Wind: W 5
Tuesday: Cloudy, light wintry mix
Highs: Low to mid 40s | Wind: W 5
A weak disturbance is ushering in clouds across the metro already today, but the high-mid veil of clouds will still allow in some filtered sunshine through mid-afternoon at least. The moisture should hold off until early Tuesday and we're expecting temps in the upper 30s at midnight. The precip will start as a rain/snow mix and no accumulation is expected. It will likely come in two waves, one in the morning, and another late afternoon. All of it is expected to be very light. This is the only real issue in the forecast this week as we turn the calendar to 2013. There will be more sunshine starting Wednesday and increases through the week. Temperatures will be near average. Here's a look at averages for the month of January:

Most of 2012 was warmer than average. Here's a great blog if you haven't seen it by WJLA meteorologist Chad Merrill http://www.wjla.com/blogs/weather/2012/12/d-c-weather-in-2012-a-year-of-records-17621.html
