Quiet but cold conditions are expected during the first week of the new year with sunshine back in the picture as well. High pressure will move over the area through the rest of the week and into the weekend keeping a few weak areas of low pressure well removed to the north over the Great Lakes. Today will see increasing sunshine through the day with highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Tonight will be very cold with lows in the teens in the suburbs to the 20s in the city.
Tomorrow and Friday will see plenty of sunshine across the area but it won’t lead to very warm conditions with high temperatures around 40 degrees both days. The weekend will have slightly warmer temperatures in the low 40s Saturday and mid 40s Sunday.
