An area of low pressure will move into the region tomorrow bringing the chance for rain changing over to snow late in the day.

Tonight: Increasing Clouds, Chilly

Lows: 30s | Wind: E 5 m.p.h.

Wednesday: Rain Likely, Changing to Snow Late, Mainly NW

Highs: 40s | Precipitation: 100%

Thursday: Mostly Sunny and Mild

Highs: Around 50 | Wind: W 4-8 m.p.h.

High pressure wedged into our area today, clearing the skies and sending temperatures well into the 50s….very nice! But changes are on the way. As the center of high pressure quickly leaves the area tonight there will be increasing cloudiness.

During the day tomorrow, we will come under the effects of a developing area of low pressure that will pass south, then southeast of our area by dawn on Thursday. Rain will develop in the metro area during the afternoon. As colder air arrives and gets drawn into the circulation, we expect the rain to mix with then change to snow. This changeover will occur north and west of Washington first, then spread southeast through D.C. and farther south and southeast through Virginia and Maryland.

There is a chance of seeing 2-3 inch accumulations well north and west of Washington…towards and beyond the Blue Ridge in VA and the Catoctins in MD. Just a coating to around 1 inch of snow is possible in the metro area with even less in those warmer areas south and east of D.C. Sunshine will return on Thursday and Friday with above average temperatures. But a strong cold front will change that late on Friday. Much colder weather will arrive for the weekend along with some flurries, too.
