Sunshine returns tomorrow, but monitoring a developing weather system that could bring a wintry mix on Wednesday.

Tonight: Gradual clearing, breezy & colder

Lows: Upper 20s to upper 30s | Wind: South to West 5-15 mph

Tuesday: Partly Cloudy & Breezy

Highs: Around 50 degrees; some spots in the lower 50s | Wind: W 10-15 G 25 mph

Wednesday: Cloudy with rain developing by evening. Could mix with/change to snow at night

Highs: Middle 40s | Precipitation: 60%

A cold front will sweep across the region tonight. Skies will gradually clear and winds will increase out of the northwest as high pressure fills-in behind the front. Temperatures will drop to near 30 degrees by morning in suburban areas and into the upper 30s in Downtown Washington. The gusty winds will make it feel somewhat colder. West of the Blue Ridge, winds will be somewhat gustier therefore those areas have been placed under a Wind Advisory. Tomorrow will be a bit breezy, but skies will be partly to mostly sunny and afternoon temperatures will be close to 50 degrees.

On Wednesday, clouds will rapidly return in response to an area of low pressure that will pass to the south and east of Washington. Right now, our feeling is the system will cause rain to spread into our area by early evening. Later at night, as the winds turn more northerly, colder air will be drawn into the system and the rain may mix with or turn to snow. The best chance for any accumulating snow will be well north and west of Washington.

On Thursday, skies will begin to clear as high pressure once again builds across the region. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the middle to upper 40s. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny on both days.
