Spring is definitely in the air today as partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the upper 60s will validate the season. Even warmer readings in the 70s are expected over the next few days

With a collective sigh of relief, Washingtonians are starting to believe that Spring is finally here! While yesterday was pleasantly cool with highs in the upper 50s and thoroughly sunny, today will be even milder. A warm front, gusty southerly winds, and air that is a touch more humid will all combine to make for a very comfortable spring day. Look for highs this afternoon in the mid to upper 60s.
With no cold fronts looming, even warmer air is expected over the next few days. Temperatures in the low 70s are likely on Monday and highs could near 80 on both Tuesday and Wednesday. With little competition in this chillier than normal year, those readings would be the warmest of 2013. Showers and cooler - but not colder! - days are expected toward week's end.
NOTE: The popping pink cherry blossoms are not alone in showing off this spring. The white flowers of the widespread Bradford Pear trees are turning whole neighborhoods into "snow-covered" arboretums while the big, showy - and smelly - leaves of the skunk cabbage are turning forest floors green overnight. Enjoy your Sunday and all this floral exuberance!
