D.C. Weather Forecast: Severe Weather Likely Tonight With A Strong Cold Front Approaching

Rain tapering off tonight with sunshine and cooler temperatures for the weekend.

Tonight:  Showers tapering off.  Gradual clearing by dawn.

Temperatures: 60s falling into the 40s to near 50 degrees downtown by dawn. | Wind: Southwest to Northwest 15-25 mph; higher gusts likely

Saturday: Partly cloudy, breezy, and much cooler.

Highs: Lower 60s | Wind: NNW 10-20 mph

Sunday: Mostly sunny and continued cool.

Highs: Around 60 degrees | Wind: ENE 5-15 mph

After a wild weather day, the severe threat is over and rain will gradually taper off after midnight.  Behind the front, much cooler temperatures and a quiet weather pattern will set up for the weekend.  Check out some of the highest wind gusts across the area from earlier today when the front slid through.  

Chilly, Canadian High Pressure will build into the area for the next few days. It will be breezy and much cooler tomorrow with periods of sunshine. On Sunday, the winds will be lighter but temperatures will remain below average. The string of cool days will continue into next week. Partly sunny skies are forecast for Monday and Tuesday with highs only reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees.
