Washington D.C. Forecast: Severe storms possible later today

A strong line of storms is possible later this afternoon and evening as a potent cold front moves into the area.

This Afternoon: Showers and Storms Likely, Some Strong to Severe

Highs: Upper 70s | Wind: S 10-20 m.p.h.

Tonight: Showers and Storms End Late

Lows: Mid to Upper 40s | Wind: NW 10-15 m.p.h.

Saturday: Partly Cloudy, Breezy and Cooler

Highs: Low 60s | Wind: NW 10-15 m.p.h.

A strong cold front will move into the region this afternoon and evening, bringing with it the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Some of those storms may be strong to severe with damaging winds as the primary threat. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 70s ahead of the front and gusty winds will be noted throughout the day out of the south around 10-20 m.p.h. Storms are expected to pass through the area between 5pm and 10pm tonight and exit off the coast by the early morning hours. Rainfall totals may be an inch or more.

Saturday will feature clearing skies and breezy northwesterly winds behind the front with cooler temperatures in the lower 60s. More sunshine is expected Sunday with continued cooler temperatures in the low 60s. Looking ahead to next week, an easterly flow will set up on Monday and Tuesday increasing clouds and keeping temperatures on the cooler side, possibly hanging in the 50s Monday and back into the mid 60s by Tuesday.
