Will the threat of showers mean a weekend washout or can we capture a bit of sunshine and milder air before Monday arrives?

Overcast skies, cool temperatures, and scattered showers are heralding the start of what looks to be a rather gray weekend.  Readings in the lower 60s are not expected to rise all that much throughout the day as a stationary front, clouds, and an easterly flow are making for a cooler than normal day.

While the average high is now 76, both Saturday and Sunday should struggle to make 70.  With moister air and some instability, scattered showers are possible right through the weekend, with the greater chances Saturday night into Sunday.

By Monday, the front should push to the north as a warm front, bringing more showers and thunderstorms. Thereafter, high pressure will return along with warmer air; highs both Tuesday and Wednesday should be in the mid to upper 80s.

Temperatures will drop again - and the threat of showers will return - at week's end.  Expect higher humidity levels through the week - a sign that it truly is May in the nation's capital!

The past week has been a study in contrasts with the first three days topping out only in the 60s, while the last three days have been in the summer-like 80s.  The wild swings have contributed to an average monthly temperature that is however now about exactly where it should be!  Enjoy your Saturday.
