How long can Washington hang on to these comfortably cool and sunny days? Is there a Bermuda High anywhere nearby and ready to resume its accustomed role?!
The contrast between this Memorial Day weekend and last year's couldn't be greater. For while Saturday was a very cool, but sunny day, with a high of just 68, last year's comparable day was hot and humid with a high of 86. The remainder of that 2012 weekend saw showers on Sunday with a high of 87, and a steamy Memorial Day when the mercury hitting 90. The rest of this year's Memorial Day holiday calls for a sunny and delightful day today with a high of just 71 and an equally sunny and pleasant day tomorrow with readings in the mid 70s. The high winds of yesterday - there was a peak gust of 37 mph at Reagan - should be less intense; sustained winds are expected at 10-15 mph with gusts to 25.
These spring-like days - and it is still technically spring for almost another month - won't last however. A warm front will move this way on Tuesday as our high pressure recedes. Thereafter, a Bermuda High will begin pumping warmer, more humid air into the area. By midweek, dew points will be doubling from the 30s to the 60s and highs will flirt with 90 degrees. In short, the high heat and sticky air we've come to expect for summer's unofficial start will be arriving, but just a few days late! Enjoy your Sunday.
