Sunshine and showers on this Thursday

A weak cold front is on the move this morning. It is located well north and west of Washington where there are scattered showers. As the front moves southward through the region today, we will look for partly cloudy skies and  isolated showers. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be possible as the front moves to the south of D.C. and daytime heating destabilizes the atmosphere. The front will be far enough south tomorrow that it will be partly cloudy, warm and DRY.

But over the weekend, with the front camping out just south of Washington and high pressure building north of Washington, we will be positioned to see partly to mostly cloudy skies, cooler temperatures and scattered showers and thunderstorms. We do not believe this pattern will mean the weekend will be a washout but we do believe there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon hours.
