The decks of low clouds that overspread parts of our area this moring were in our abc 7 and WTOP forecasts yesterday. It is what is called a marine layer. Low decks of clouds only 900 to 1,100 feet above the ground. With high pressure northeast of Washington, it was only a question of when these clouds would advance westward from the Eastern Shore. As we go through the day, the deck will slowly erode. So, areas that stay in the sunshine all day will climb to near 70 degrees. Those areas stuck under the deck, will be somewhat cooler until skies clear.

Partly to mostly sunny conditions are forecast through Sunday as high pressure expands and strengthens across the region. High temperatures will be around 70 degrees and that is close to the seasonal average for early May. The next system that could return rain to the area may begin afffecting our area later Monday.

The Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA is in full swing and it has quite a history. Be sure to check out the latest blog by our our colleague and Winchester native Lauryn Ricketts.
