Low pressure over southwestern Virginia will drift northeastward. This motion will continue the chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms today. But it will also allow temperatures to climb a few more degrees and allow a little sunshine to develop, as well. This storm system produced a little over 1/2 inch of rain at Reagan National Airport yesterday but considerably more in spots outside the Nation's Capital.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy tonight and a few showers will be possible. The slow moving system will continue to move across the mid-Atlantic States tomorrow. This will allow a little more sunshine, push temperatures well into the 70s and reduce the chance of rain to about 30%. Even warmer air will be drawn into our region on Friday. Looking ahead to the weekend. Morning sunshine on Saturday will fade as clouds increase ahead of a cold front. Highs will be in the 70s but will fall as showers and thunderstorms may devlop during the afternoon and evening hours. On Sunday, Mother's Day, skies will become partly cloudy with highs around 70 degrees. I am hopeful it will remain dry throughout the day, but cannot quite yet make that guarantee.
