Here comes the heat! First full week of summer features temperatures in the lower to mid 90s with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms each day. An area of high pressure off the coast will continue to push in a warm humid airmass from the south. Mostly sunshine today but a few clouds moving in and out. A chance for some scattered afternoon storms this afternoon which could be strong to severe. More of the same for your Tuesday with some patchy fog in the early morning hours. Temperatures for your Tuesday - Thursday, once again reach the lower to mid 90s with partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. And once again we will have the chance for some afternoon thunderstorms each afternoon. During this time, some heat indices could reach about 100 degrees! By the time we get to Thursday PM into Friday, a cold front will sweep into the moist region creating a better chance of more widely spread thunderstorms and also a chance that some could go severe. Temperatures drop into the mid to upper 80s for the weekend with still a chance of some showers/storms through each day!

We are approaching the 1 year anniversary of the derecho in the D.C. area (I remember it vividly because I lost power for about 12 days during the hottest stretch of days to date at that time--ugh!) Check out how one man survived the derecho and his unique approach to the storm, along with more background on derechos and how often they affect the D.C. area!

And in case you missed the our ABC7 Storm Watch special "Surviving Severe Weather" last Friday, Adam Caskey will be posting some of our segments over the next several days, so you don't entirely miss out on the action!
