Severe storms Thursday afternoon, then a slight break in the heat.

Showers and thunderstorms have ended for the night, but closely watching storms in the Ohio Valley to see if any stray showers hold together and make it here to the D.C. area early Thursday morning. A strong cold front will be closing in on the area tomorrow and will likely trigger a line of storms that could produce winds in excess of 60mph and some hail. Thursday's severe storms will be more likely and more widespread compared to what we've seen the past few days.

Storm Prediction Center

The storm prediction center has put the entire area under a "slight" risk of severe storms. The storms should arrive in the afternoon with the most likely window from 2p-7p. The cold front is expected to stall out on Friday in the Mid-Atlantic and we will be under the influence of an upper low. This will keep us unstable with chances of showers and storms in the afternoon through the week.
