Keeping one's cool proved challenging yesterday as heat indices soared into the triple digits. With a high of 92 at Reagan National and dew points in the mid 70s, it was an oppressively hot, albeit beautifully sunny Saturday. The same Bermuda High that has kept a steady stream of hot, sticky air funneling into the Mid-Atlantic will control today's weather as well. But while we will again see highs in the low 90s, an advancing low pressure center will bring the threat of showers and thunderstorms later this afternoon. Much of the activity will likely occur far to the west where there are flash flood watches in effect. The likelihood of showers in the immediate DC area will increase in the overnight hours. Until then, look for another mostly sunny, hot day with dew points again in the 70s.
As the large ridge over the eastern US begins to break down this week, look for some changes in the recent weather pattern. A front is expected to arrive on Thursday that will usher in somewhat cooler air. And while highs in the low to mid 80s aren't necessarily "no sweat," they will be a relief from the recent sultriness! Enjoy your Sunday.
