Heat and humidity will continue to rule our weather world this week. A strong ridge of high pressure over the Ohio Valley is parked in place the next few days. Northerly winds are keeping us cooler than our potential would be otherwise, and the NWS has dropped the heat advisory early today as a result. The heat index will still be very uncomfortable all week around 100 or so each afternoon.

The ridge will start breaking down by Thursday a bit, and that will bring in slight chances of showers and thunderstorms. They will mainly be confined to the mountains/highlands Wednesday and Thursday, but could make it into the D.C. area Friday and into the weekend. A cold front comes Saturday and Sunday to bring some relief to the heat and chances of storms. Highs will leave the 90s and drop into the mid-upper 80s.
