After last night's rain, skies cleared this morning and Fall began arriving right on schedule!  Yesterday's cold front is now well to the east and as high pressure builds in, we can look forward to mostly sunny skies,  breezes from the northwest, and high temperatures in the low 70s.  The fall equinox officially occurs at 4:44 PM.

With the same weather pattern of mostly sunny and rather cool days expected to last through much of the coming week, we are grateful for the rather substantial rain that fell yesterday.  After an exceptionally dry September, yesterday's 0.87 inches at Reagan National and 1.3 inches at Dulles made for the month's wettest day.  In fact, it was the most rain at Reagan since back on July 18th when over an inch fell.  It could be some time before we see a repeat performance.  For while there is a disturbance likely to pass through the area on Thursday, the lack of moisture in the air will likely mean yet another week of dry days.  Temperatures will however start to rise a bit with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 by week's end.  Enjoy this first day of Fall!
