Today marks the end of our mini September heat wave. Highs this afternoon will once again approach the 90° mark, but a cold front is heading our way. That front will help trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon, some of which could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has the viewing area under a "slight" risk for severe storms with the greatest threat of strong winds possible.
Storms will come to an end later tonight and drier air will start to filter in through the overnight hours. Tomorrow will be noticeably cooler with highs in the mid to upper 70s and very low humidity. It will also be quite breezy. The weekend looks spectacular and very autumnal. Early Saturday morning lows will fall into the upper 40s in the suburbs to around 50 degrees in the city. Saturday afternoon highs will struggle to reach the 70° mark, but plenty of sunshine is expected. More sunshine on Sunday with highs in the upper 70s.
