Look for a touch of fall today with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures only near 70.  Tonight will be one of the coolest in months with the mercury dropping into the low 50s and 40s.  Patchy frost is possible to the far NW.

This Afternoon:
Sunny & Comfortably Cool
Highs: 68-73
Wind: NW 5-15 mph
Clear & Quite Cool
Lows: 42-51
Wind: NW 5-10 mph
Sunny & A Bit Warmer
Highs: 75-80
Wind: W/S 5 mph

What a difference a day has made!  Summer has been swept away and fall is definitely in the air.  Temperatures and dew points have dropped over 10 degrees in the last 24 hours and the crisp, cool air of autumn is unmistakeable.  With high pressure building in for the weekend, look for plenty of sunshine today with highs only near 70.  Tonight will likely be one of the coolest evenings since late May as diminishing winds and radiational cooling will help drop temperatures into the 40s and low 50s.  Patchy frost is even possible in secluded areas of the Potomac Highlands.  With the high moving offshore tomorrow, look for more southerly winds and temperatures a bit milder with highs in the upper 70s to near 80.

NOTE: The three-day heat wave of this past week has raised the average temperature this month to a whopping 4 degrees above average.  In fact, the three 90-degree days this week make for a total of six this September, tying the number for the entire month of August, a month that was uncharacteristically cooler than normal by one degree.  Enjoy your weekend of autumnal bliss!
