Sunday morning at 2am, Daylight Saving Time ends and we return to Eastern Standard Time. This will result in gaining daylight in the morning hours, but losing even more at night. On Saturday, the sun will rise at 7:37am and sets at 6:06pm. After turning the clocks back an hour Saturday night, the sun will rise on Sunday at 6:38am and set at 5:05pm. Three minutes of daylight is also lost between the 2nd and 3rd of November.
Today (November 1st) features 10 hours and 32 minutes of daylight. By the middle of the month on the 15th, there are only 10 hours and 3 minutes of daylight, so we lose 29 minutes in 15 days. By the end of November, only 9 hours and 40 minutes of daylight remains.
The shortest days of the year in terms of daylight occur in December, with 9 hours and 26 minutes of daylight on the 20th though 22nd. The shortest days coincide with the Winter Solstice. On December 21st, the sun rises at 7:23am and sets at 4:50pm. The earliest the sun sets is from the 13th through the 15th when it goes below the horizon at 4:47pm.
