This morning featured the earliest day with freezing temperatures in D.C. since 2006. Tonight will be just as cold and even colder in the surrounding suburbs.

Tonight:
Mostly Clear, Cold
Lows: 19-31°F
Wind: SW 3-5 m.p.h.
Thursday:
Mostly Sunny, Milder
Highs: Mid 50s
Wind: SW 5-10 m.p.h.
Friday:
Partly Sunny, Seasonal
Highs: Upper 50s to Near 60
Wind: SW 5-10 m.p.h.

The huge area of cold and dry high pressure is still large and in charge. But it will slowly move eastward and be off the coastline during the weekend. This will place our area on the western side of the ridge and that’s a good place to be this time of year. It means we will warm noticeably. It will be cold tonight, though. Perhaps colder than last night. But a slow warm up will begin tomorrow…Skies will be mostly sunny tomorrow and partly sunny on Friday and Saturday. Some models are developing some upper level features that might bring showers to parts of the area on Sunday but there are equal or better chances they will hold off until a cold front approaches on Monday. Stay tuned.
