A chilly day in the region today, mainly because of the winds! A breezy SW wind will turn NW as a front moves through the region. Winds chills will remain in the 30s for most of the afternoon although our air temperatures should reach into the lower to mid 40s. Once high pressure settles overhead this evening, winds will calm significantly, leading to a very clear, cold but beautiful night.

By the stroke of midnight, temperatures should be right around 30 degrees. For New Year's Day, daytime highs will once again be in the mid 40s with a mix of sun and clouds. More clouds on the increase Wednesday night as our next system begins to take shape.

Mostly dry through the day on Thursday, some light snow showers could overspread the area by late afternoon - late evening hours. When this system exits the Mid Atlantic coast, windy conditions will ensue for Friday. Daytime highs on Friday will not make it out of the 20s but it will feel like the teens around the DC area and single digits in spots north and west of town although we will have ample sunshine.
