Another cold night ahead, not quite as cold Friday and the potential for another wintry mix early this weekend.

Clear and Cold
Lows: Teens to Mid 20s
Wind: NW 4-8 m.p.h.
Friday:
Mostly Sunny and Chilly
Highs: Near 40
Wind: WSW 5-10 m.p.h.
Saturday:
Mostly Cloudy, Mix to Rain Possible
Highs: Upper 30s
Precipitation: 80%

Arctic High Pressure has overspread the entire region...it’s very cold today, it will be even colder tonight. Skies will be clear tonight and mostly sunny tomorrow. We should see temperatures recover tomorrow afternoon to near 40 degrees.

And then there is Saturday. I don’t want to say, here we go again but I will. Here we go again. Very cold air will be in place through our area as an area of low pressure passes west of the Appalachians. Another area of low pressure may form along the Carolina Coast and with the cold in place, it appears likely we will be dealing with another WINTRY MIX.

Snow or sleet may begin late Saturday morning. In the metro area and points south and east, we should see it gradually change to rain with temperatures above freezing. BUT farther north and west of Washington, beyond the suburban areas, there is a chance that enough cold air will remain in place at the surface and aloft to create the potential for accumulating snow. It is always a roll of the dice trying to pinpoint who is going to get what in these transitional precipitation events. But we feel any significant disruptive effects will indeed be north and west of the metro area.
