Much cooler air will settle into the region this weekend setting the stage for a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain by Sunday.

Cloudy, Areas of Rain
Temperatures: 50s into the 40s
Wind: N 10 m.p.h.
Mostly Cloudy, Rain Ends Late
Lows: 30s
Wind: N 10-15 m.p.h.
Partly Cloudy, Breezy and Colder
Highs: Low to Mid 40s
Wind: NW 10-15+ m.p.h.

A new area low pressure will approach our area on Sunday and Sunday night as a cold air mass will be entrenched east of the Appalachians. The precipitation will over run the cold air on the surface and in the lowest levels of the atmosphere. The best scenario at the moment…according to the most recent guidance…is for snow to begin during the morning hours then mix with and change to sleet. The majority of the precipitation will fall as sleet and freezing rain EXCEPT in those locations where ground level temperatures remain above 32 degrees. Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore and Bay front locations on the Western Shore of the Chesapeake may have predominantly rain because temperatures may remain above freezing. There is the potential for enough sleet and freezing rain to disrupt travel and create hazardous conditions.
