After a soggy Sunday, we're back to dry weather for the last two days of 2013. As a dry cold front slides through today, expect a good bit of cloud cover and breezy northwesterly winds.
More sunshine is expected for New Year's Eve with highs in the low to mid 40s. When the ball drops at midnight tomorrow, skies will be mainly clear and temperatures will be cold, in the lower 30s. The first day of the New Year brings plenty of sunshine, light winds, and highs around 40 degrees. The forecast confidence for Thursday and Friday drops off. Two atmospheric features will bring the potential for a rain/snow mix (or lack there of) by Thursday into Friday morning. Forecast simulations are in some disagreement. At this point, a cold front drops south of the Great Lakes late Thursday and merges with Gulf stream moisture. The bulk of the precipitation from these two elements will stay to our northwest (NW PA & upstate NY) and off the East coast. It almost appears there will be a dry slot over our area.

If the two streams merge closer together that could indicate more precipitation over our area late Thursday into early Friday morning, but it is still too early to tell. We'll continue to monitor the situation closely and update you with the newest information, as it becomes available. A bitter blast arrives to end the week, with highs on Friday barely climbing above 30 degrees!
