Dangerous cold moves in tonight and doesn't warm above freezing until Thursday.

This Afternoon:
Clearing and Cold, with Windy Conditions
Temperatures: Falling through 30s
Wind: W 10-20+
Tonight:
Wind Chill Advisory
Lows: -5 to +10
Wind Chill: -5 to -25 at times
Tuesday:
Sunny and Near Record Low Temperatures
Highs: 8-16
Wind: W 10-20

It's a big flip-flop in temperatures today with a drastic temperature drop.  The apparent temperature or "feel factor" will span about 60 degrees in the next 24 hours with about 50 degrees at 8a.m to about -10 Tuesday morning.  Records lows are in jeopardy.

Record Lows January 7th

And we will likely break the record minimum high temperatures.  The coldest high on Tuesday at Reagan National is 18 and at Dulles it is 21.  I don't expect highs to get past 16.  While it will look nice with sunshine this afternoon and Tuesday, we don't expect to get above freezing again until Thursday.  When all is said in done, it will be the coldest blast to hit D.C. in 20 years.  If the cold doesn't count, the week will be rather quiet. Next chance of rain on Friday.
