It's a mostly cloudy and chilly start to the weekend with the prospect of some light snow today and a bit more tomorrow. Two separate systems, one over the Gulf and another over the Great Lakes, will affect the DC area but in both instances, only glancingly. Snow showers today could provide a dusting and perhaps up to a half-inch of snow while Sunday could see snow showers turn to a mix of rain and snow by afternoon. Little to no accumulation is expected on Sunday. Tellingly, there are no winter weather advisories or watches in effect for either day.
Temperatures today could rise to the mid 30s with highs on Sunday near 40. The weekend's snow, light as it may be, will be February''s first at Reagan National; to date, just a trace has fallen and DC has tallied just over 8 inches for the season, about 2 inches below normal. And after a bitterly cold January, this month is actually running a few degrees above normal, a welcome bit of cheer in this long winter of our discontent! Enjoy the weekend.
