Washington D.C. forecast: Winter Weather Advisory tonight

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10pm through 6am for the majority of the D.C. area. Light snow will be likely overnight.

Snow: 1-2" Possible
Tuesday:
Partly Cloudy and Warmer
Highs: Near 50
Wind: WSW 10 m.p.h.
Wednesday:
Partly Sunny and Warm
Highs: Low 50s
Wind: SW 5-10 m.p.h.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY in effect  thru 6 am tomorrow morning for the Metropolitan Washington Area and points north and west. Advisory until 8 am East of Washington. Southern Maryland, Stafford and Spotsylvania Counties are not included in the ADVISORY at this time. 1”-3” possible in Advised Areas. Places along the PA/MD border could get 2”-4” of snow.

 The system is near the Appalachians and will spread snow into the region just before midnight.. The system is moving quickly will exit the area before sunrise, followed by partial clearing and much milder afternoon temperatures. While snow is the primary precipitation type we will see, areas south and east of DC may see a wintry mix of snow and rain or freezing rain. Thankfully, this system is moving quickly but it will impact the early morning commute.

Another upper level disturbance will approach the area early Wednesday with clouds and a few sprinkles. Clearing skies with milder temperatures will follow for Wednesday afternoon. Thursday will be pleasant with partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s. Before a cold front crosses the region on Friday we could reach or top the 60 degree mark. But with the frontal passage, showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible on Friday afternoon.
