Enjoy a quiet morning and afternoon as we get ready for our second storm of the week. Today will be partly sunny and cool with high pressure influencing our weather. This afternoon high clouds will be increasing ahead of a winter storm that is currently in the middle of the country. We expect warm air to ride over the top of chilly air at the surface, so it looks likely that a significant ice event will unfold tonight and Wednesday morning.
A freezing rain advisory is in effect for D.C but areas north and west are under a winter storm warning. The areas shaded in pink will likely see some small accumulations of snow and sleet first, and then change to freezing rain. This concerns me with heavy, wet snow already on tree branches that there will be some power outages and for sure very hazardous roadways. Here's a map of what we expect for ice accumulation.

And here's some information on what kind of an impact that much ice will have.
- Ice Impact
Skies should clear out slowly after the noon hour on Wednesday with a nice break in the stormy pattern through the rest of the week. However, the end of the weekend and early next week could get interesting again. We'll worry about that after this ice storm.
