Clouds will increase a bit overnight as temperatures fall to the middle 30s and lower 40s. Colder air will filter across the mid-Atlantic Sunday allowing for highs to only reach the middle to upper 40s, about ten degrees below average for this time of year. A few showers are possible as a disturbance moves south of the area.

An area of high pressure will briefly build Sunday night and into Monday. Morning lows to start the work and school week will only be in the 20s, definitely not what you would expect for late March. Sunshine and longer daylight hours will make it look like spring, but with highs only around 40 degrees, we are quickly reminded that “winter” has a few last gasps.

Low pressure is likely to form and intensify off the North Carolina coast Monday. As it develops and gathers strength, the outer edge may bring a risk for rain and snow Tuesday. The exact track of this system will determine the impact across the mid-Atlantic. Strong, gusty winds may become an issue.
