Skies will become mostly cloudy overnight as our next big weather maker moves in from the west. Lows in the District will be close to 50 degrees, with cooler readings further north and west.

Temperatures will quickly rebound tomorrow thanks to strong southwesterly winds. Highs will jump to the upper 60s and lower 70s. A passing frontal system will likely bring showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds by afternoon. Some storms will have the potential to become severe. The strongest activity will occur during the afternoon hours and into the early evening commute, from west to east.

Frigid air will rush in from behind the front and temperatures will plunge quickly. Overnight lows will range from the upper 20s to lower 30s; along with sustained winds at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

Cold temperatures on Thursday will only last a day. Highs will struggle to upper 30s and gusty winds will add an extra chill. Out with the cold and in with the cool on Friday. Highs will be in the 50s under mostly sunny skies.
