High pressure off the coast will continue to pump in heat and humidity before a cold front arrives tomorrow. This will give us a running start today so we expect a bit hotter and more humid day, helped along by ample sunshine, with highs into the 90s. The heat index values—a “feels like” temperature that takes into account the temperatures and humidity—near 100 degrees. Meanwhile, a new low pressure center will approach from the west. This will swing a cold front into the region, bringing the threat of showers and thunderstorms starting later today and lasting through Wednesday. There is a slight risk for severe storms west of D.C. today. Although the front will be a slow-mover, we expect it to slip just south of the area during the day Wednesday, opening the gates for some relief from some relief from the heat and humidity. The front will stall just to our south Thursday and Friday. The combination of the stalled front nearby and some instability aloft may generate a shower both of these days. The good news is that it will be more comfortable with highs in the upper 80s and lower dew points. Have a great day!
