Look for scattered clouds and patchy fog overnight as temperatures drop to the middle 60s and lower 70s. Sunshine returns Saturday with afternoon temperatures warming nicely into the middle to upper 80s. Heat and humidity will build for the end of the weekend and into early next week. Sunday highs will approach 90 degrees with an added chance for thunderstorms.
Monday will be the hottest of the next seven days as a cold front approaches from the west. As the atmosphere becomes more unsettled, thunderstorms will likely develop Monday afternoon as highs jump to the middle 90s. As if that is not hot enough, the heat index will make it feel closer to 100 degrees. The cold front will move overhead Tuesday. Thunderstorms will become strong to severe gusty winds and heavy rain. If the front slows, flooding may become a problem across much of the mid-Atlantic.
