A Look at the Week Ahead
posted by Alex Liggitt: Weather Producer

A few showers can be seen on Live Super Doppler 7 this morning but little of that is reaching the ground.  A shortwave trough is swinging through the region today, making for variably cloudy skies and scattered showers.  High pressure will settle in overhead Tuesday and beautiful weather can be expected with highs in the mid to upper 50s.  Even warmer temperatures are anticipated for Wednesday as high pressure moves to our east, settling up a return flow which will help push highs into the low to mid 60s.

The word for the end of the week into the beginning of the weekend is unsettled, as a frontal system moves into the region Wednesday, then a chance for rain will hang with us through Saturday.  The best chance for rain at this time appears to be Thursday, Friday night, and Saturday afternoon and evening.  Rainfall amounts should remain relatively light, but it will be good for the region, which has run just around normal for rainfall since the beginning of the year.  This is great as we were in such a drought by the end of last year.  Now unfortunately, I just happened to look at the Drought Monitor and most of Virginia is in a moderate drought, with portions of southern Virginia in a severe drought.  Maryland seems to be spared for the most part, but there are some moderate drought conditions for southernmost portions of Charles and St. Mary's counties, as well as severe drought conditions on the Eastern Shore.  We'll keep you posted, hopefully this week will give us enough rain to alleviate some of those problems.
