High heat is on the way
posted by Alex Liggitt: Producer/Meteorologist

With such a cool past couple of days, people have been wondering where exactly summer has been.  With the first full day of summer today, I think the weather pattern has heard the clock ticking and knows exactly which day it is on the calendar.  Highs today will be slightly below normal in the lower 80s.  Mid 80s can be expected Tuesday of this week, and then the really hot, hazy and humid weather settles in by the middle of the week.

Highs should reach the upper 80s on Wednesday, then hit right around the 90 degree mark through the remainder of the week and into the weekend.  Highs may even reach the lower 90s through many locations Thursday before a weak cold front passes through the region Friday.  As for showers and storms, the pattern appears like it will be relatively quiet this week, with the chance for a few showers and storms on Friday, then isolated storms by early next week.  As for the weekend ahead, mostly sunny skies and hot temperatures can be expected for now.  Highs should top out in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees once more.
