The longest I've run so far is 18 miles on a flat soft trail, so in the upcoming 6 weeks, I have to start kicking my own tail, as Charlottesville is not only mostly on paved roads, but it is one of the hilliest marathons in the country. For these final training runs, there are a few spots I like to go to get my behind kicked that have some killer hills, great scenery, and an overall fun run where you never get bored. I think I will visit Hemlock park out in Fairfax this weekend, then maybe Prince William Forest Park down off 234 near Manassas the next weekend as they have a great combo of distance, hills and difference.
In the past 10 weeks I have run just about 160 miles, so I feel like I am getting in just about the right mileage, maybe a hair under where I should be. I decided to try to follow an online plan from Hal Hilgen(sp?) which turns out it is pretty tough, but a good one with more than one 20 mile run before the race.
Oh yea, on a side note, I went to Tamarindo, Costa Rica for vacation last week, and run into a girl that said she was also running in the Charlottesville Marathon, which last year only had 395 finishers, small world huh? If anyone knows of any other good places to run, post back to this blog, thanks!
