The showers will be spotty throughout today but continue to put a dent in our August rainfall deficit. Already, the deficit has been reduced to about two inches below average at Reagan National Airport, which is down from two and a half inches before the rain began. Martinsburg, VA, which had heavier and more numerous showers, is now just 0.19 inches below average for the month of August. BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport has seen the least amount of rain and is two and a half inches below average for the month.
The rain has been beneficial and came at a great time: just before the long holiday weekend. The remnants of Fay will be swept eastward into the Atlantic as a cold front moves through our region Saturday afternoon. This cold front has the potential to trigger a few thundershowers late Saturday, but I'm not anticipating too many showers. As the front approaches, just limited sunshine is expected Saturday, but high pressure will likely cause vast sunshine Sunday and Labor Day, so most of the weekend should be very pleasant. High temperatures should climb into the mid and upper 80s on Sunday and Monday. However, as the temperature rises this weekend, the humidity will drop. Enjoy.
